Result: Sarisbury lost by 27 runs.
Captain's Report
Winning the toss, Capital elected to bat on a warm sunny day (summer had
arrived at last), on a pitch that was green, damp and suffering from
some neglect. Sarisbury fielded one of their strongest potential third
teams and we took to the field with an heir of positive optimism. Some
good tight accurate bowling in favourable conditions saw the home side
struggle to score runs, and at the drinks break they had dragged the
scoreboard kicking and screaming to 33 for 3 - the bowling being backed
up by some fine fielding. The second half of the innings saw a dash for
runs, but boundaries remained difficult to score, and despite some
lapses in the field, the home side's innings closed at 111 all out -
maximum batting points for the first time this season.
At tea, the spirits were high - a time for application and patience. It
all started so well, some loose bowling was firmly dealt with and the
score steadily moved towards the target. In the 40s the wheels started
to wobble with the fall of 3 wickets, but with the strength of batting
to come the worries were quickly banished. 10 overs later, and the
train was well and truly derailed, and a short-time later it was game
over - from a position of strength at 40 without loss, the batting and
crumbled to 84 all out - some controversial dismissals may have swung
the game, but after the performance of the bowlers it was a massive
disappointed.
So onwards and upwards - a local derby against Locks Heath to come - the
search for that elusive victory continues...
