Captain's Report
Saturday 15th June 2002
Played to the accompaniment of merriment from drunken football fans in the Green Dragon,
on a very strange wicket which was rock hard on top but wet underneath Sarisbury 2nds won
their second league fixture of the season.
It is fair to say that neither side enjoyed the wicket as the ball did not bounce, making
it difficult for anyone to score runs, whilst it also hindered the bowlers as there was
life whatsoever.
Against this background we rattled up 229 for 5 in 42 overs with Paul Goodman
showing a welcome return to form in scoring 131 in 117 balls. He was assisted by
Jeremy Weeks, who scored 60, in a second wicket partnership of 199.
When we took the field it was obvious that only a few of the opposition were going to be
able to pose a threat to our score. In the early overs they kept up with the over rate but
some tight bowling in the middle overs by Les Orr and Steve Roberts, ensured the scoring
rate required was beyond reach.
This enabled Rob Evans and Dominic Ducellier with three and two wickets respectively to
rap up most of the tail.
In the end Rowner finished on 170 for 8 and a welcome 21 points for us.
Steve Roberts.
